When I bought my car the ABS light was on inside the car. I found out that the cable that goes to the sensor on the left front brake has been cut off. However, I know I can prolly just attach a new cable to it. But it came to my surprise that I have no sensor on that side. I cant even see a place where the sensor can be installed. If I look on my right front brake, I can see where the sensor is and the hole it is installed in, but not on my left.

Any suggestions what I can do about this thing? My car is a 1997 Eclipse Spyder GST. Maybe the spider or what it is called has been replaced with a spider part that does not have an ABS sensor???

PLEASE! I need this resolved since I will ship the car to Europe soon.

Thanks!!

you are right, they must have replace the whole spindle with one from a non abs car. you will have to get a new spindle that has the abs in it from a junk yard.

I just had to replace my spindle because i couldn't get the driveshaft hub out of it. I paid around 50 bucks for it but it had the abs sensor wire cut. I tried to splice the wire back together but it still doens't work. So if you get one get the whole wire and connector together.

A new abs sensor from www.partznet.com is 100 bucks.

Does anyone know for sure if you can splice the wire back together? Also Is their a difference between sensors from different years.

the wheel speed sensor bolts right on to the knuckle. Was the car ever in an accident? If it was or the previous owner put on a non abs knuckle. To put the sensor back in youll need an abs knuckle, wheel speed sensor and wiring , until then your car will have just normal brakes (no abs). Go here for the knuckle http://www.msrecycling.com/cars_mitsubishi_eagle_chrysler.htm

Dont I need the spindle as well, since I have no where to put the sensor.. Then the whole abs sensor thing? Sorry, new to this issue...Also, can I just connect the two cables, the one from the new sensor with the one that has been cut off???

please let me know

and yes. the car has been in a bad accident I beleive. I guess they replaced it with a non abs spindle...sucks!!

Yes, a wheel-speed sensor's cable can be spliced together (after all, one of the most frequent failures is in the cable [it fatigues and breaks inside from all the up-and-down movement] and so people replace the wires often while leaving the sensor in place). But since the new sensor will come with a bit of harness, why not just trace back the wire and replace the whole thing.

And, yes, you must have an ABS spindle etc to have a working speed sensor.

Well the cable is a bit tricky to trace back from the wheel....but I will try :) Any ideas where I can get the spindle and the ABS sensor for a decent price? Also, doesnt my ABS work right now without the sensor???

Thanks

 ?? partznet what a bunch of BS. Owell time to find a new oem source.

As for the abs sensor wire, you just remove the inner fender linning and it connects close to where it goes into the linning

Or www.mitsubishigraveyard.com. If you don't want to wait you should be able to get one from you local salvage yard. As for the sensor the one that came on the knuckle that i got from a local salvage yard was bad. so you may want to get a new one of those.

www.jnztuning.com is the new website for partznet. or you could order one from you local mitsubishi dealership, or www.mitsupartsdirect.com

I would recommend getting a used knuckle as a new one will cost you around 300 bucks and you will also need the hub another 100 bucks. just make sure the hub bearing is in good condition when you get it from a local salvage yard.

good luck.

ok.. thanks for the help.. I need some clarification though.

What is the nukle? Is that the same thing as the spindle?

new to this so sorry for my confusion. thanks

Bummer about partznet ... yes, "knuckle" and "spindle" are terms that refer to the same part, although some anal types get annoyed by this.
