Tires for 17" rims??

Upgrading to 17X7" Rims and need the best performance "size" tire that you guys know of. I had 205/55R16s on my 16" rims. I dont want anything narrower than those or taller on the sidewall. Looking for a tire that has a contact about 8.-9" wide. Iam not use to the metric system, sorry.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You should use a 225-45-17


Stock 205-55-16 is about 24.88" tall and 8.07" wide

A 225-45-17 is about 24.97" tall and 8.86" wide

If you are serious about performance, you should be getting a wider wheel, like 8 or 8.5. Otherwise the size stated above is probably the best.

I agree with DiabloRT, I tried 235s and they rub sometimes.

Thanks guys, 225-45-17s it is. The cars being built for dragracing while being street legal. I dont need anything much wider than 8.86" as Id rather spin then hook and break parts.
