I found wheels I liked and they were made with an offset of 45mm. Tires to be 225/45-17. Well they cqalled today to say a mistake wasmade. The wheels that they ordered came chromed instead of painted/polished. We worked a discount price for me to take chrome, OK. I walked into the shop as they were installing the wheels-THE WRONG WHEELS!! NOT ONLY CHROME BUT THE WRONG STYLE!!
So they pulled them off, remounted my old wheels. They will order the correct wheels tomorrow, I hope. The correct wheels have a 40mm offset. That should give the car a more agressive stance with less offset, correct? Wheels will be 5mm more to the outside?
Any opinions as to whther 235's would fit these size wheels well or not? I'll post a follow up tomorrow. Mark

You didn't get the math down yet, huh? Sure 235/45/17's should fit fine.

I know that 45mm was going to be OK mfor the 225's and with the 40mm offset I pick-up 5mm per side so I have 5mm to work with inside and 5mm is half of the difference created by a tire that overall is 10mm wider.
Should fit perfectly, but what about 5mm going outboard?
The wheel and 235 tire should also come to the spot that the 225mm tire would have come to. however is a 7.5" wide wheel able to fit the 235's adequately.

I believe you'll find 7.5 width wheel is the minimum recommended for many popular 235 width tires. Don't forget to add a little more radius into your calculation (4.5mm).

I"m going to try and find a ebsite for American Racing to see if I can find a chart or some kind of info on recommended tire widths with different size rims. When I told them they had the wrong wheels and I wasn't going to take them...well it didn't put a good end to their day! I need to go in there prepared if I am going to switch tire width, if I should/could use a 235. The stock 6" rims give the stock 205's a funny, almost a semi-flat look that I on't want to have with the new ons. Mark
