So will a new, tighter transmission grind sometimes if shifted too fast?

Tonight I was out driving around when I came to a stop sign. I hammered on it through first then shifted fast into second. I didn't shift really hard or anything, just a nice quick smooth shift. I MIGHT possibly have let the clutch out before I was all the way into gear, but I didn't think so. Anyways it let out a pretty good grind from the transmission. I immediatly put in in neutral and went to forth at about 35mph.

The transmission is fine and shifts just fine, but it seems like if I dont get it in second gear all the way sometimes it will grind. It doesn't matter if i let the clutch out or not either. It will do it if I am lazy with it and shift really slow. Its like there is two engagement points. Is this because of my double second gear? That would make sense. I feel the first engage so I start to slip out the clutch.

Oh and on top of it now my ACT2100 slips when I go into second. RPM will stay at about 6,000rpm then drop to about 5,000rpm then climb back up.. DOH! I even have a LOT of material left on the clutch disk. Oh well time for a 2600!

Thanks for the help in advance!

No, overpowering the _synchros_. They're just little expanding internally split band brakes. Push on them too fast, or when there's too much speed difference between the cluster and the gear you're selecting, and any gearbox will grind.
Shift with your wrist, not your arm. Keep your wrist bent, and as you come against the synchro, let it straighten as you pull back steadily but gently. Let the synchros work, give them an amount of work they're capable of, and they'll live much, much longer.

Awesome! Thanks a lot. If you get a minute, could you please explain to me the advantage to a double second synchro? Thanks Defiant! Your always a great help.
