New Synchro, firt gear set

Dealer says I need a new synchro, and first gear set. Should I let them go ahead and fix it or is this something I can do myself. I'm not real mechanically inclined so what do you guys think. They quoted me that it would be atleast 500 bucks.

no have them do that if you aren't "mechanically inclined". I do all the work on my car and even I had someone do the stuff inside the tranny for me. You can go on vfaq and read up on how to do a rebuild on a tranny and attempt it but I wouldn't.
