O.K. I just had my tranny apart to replace a bearing, and everything looked fine when I put it together, now, it shifts great when it has been sitting for a while, but after I have been driving for 20-30 min. shifting into 3rd gear grinds every time. I dont get it what would cause it to do this only after driving for a while. if i let it sit for about a half hour, its fine for a little while again. I tried putting syncromesh, and a couple other "tranny fixers" in, I adjusted the linkage, niether helped at all. If anybody can help me know where to start that would be great

no i didn't replace them, i regret it, but nothing looked bad other than the bearing i replaced. i was gonna sell it after i got it back together, but then i just couldn't part with her. so you guys think its syncros?

my thought is that its workd when it is cold because the oil is cold and thick so it will stick to the gers a little better. when it gets warm it will think out. that is my thought. but its just a thought. i hope other peopl will give their info on this subject.

that seems to be the verdict....syncros.....why do they only do it when it gets warm? I had the same thought about the oil thinning out, but i put in this super thick stuff, and it actually seems to help a little...but it still dose it. any other insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

if the other oil helped a little but the problem still occurs then the syncro is to far gone to do anything abotu it. the syncro has a tappered surface on the inside tha mates to another part i cant remembedr the name. not the atcual gears. so if the tapper/cone part whears out it wont have the correct surface area to contact to spin all the parts at the same speed so tehy mesh together. that is why they grind

I get it now, sort of.....I understand what your saying about the tapperd part, i probably over looked those when i had it apart.but i still dont get why it would matter how long i was driving. if it were that wouldn't it do it right away?
