I was talking to a local dsm owner that has a 96 spyder gst and said that he drilled small holes in his tranny i believe like a 64th of an inch, but anyways small and said that you are able to free up hp by this. Has anyone treid or heard of this, not sure if its all b/s or what:dsm:

Good god.

Transmissions don't keep horsepower hostage. Sounds like he's dicking with the hydraulic circuits in order to alter shift points or pressures... although I wouldn't rule out air circulation holes for cooling in his case.

Here's a very simple test for any time you hear of a "secret" DSM performance mod: have you heard of it before? If not, it's probably crap. These cars and power plants have been around for more than a decade, in the hands of much more clever and devious tuners than any of us will ever shake hands with. The "secrets" have all been revealed, and are already in use.

OK before you get flamed for this question.

An automatic trans is a hydrolic pressure system. It uses various springs and valves under different pressures to shift gears. The fluid used to do this is called ATF "Automatic Transmission Fluid" If you drill holes in your tranny case and the tranny fluid leaks out your trans is SHOT!!!! Start looking for a new trans as soon as you try that guy's suggestion...
If you really want to improve your transmissions performance, take it to a certified trans shop and have it serviced. Or you could send it to one of a few places i have read about on this board.. Try contacting a member here called Transdude. He will tell you what will work and what won't work..

Good luck...

thanks, because me and my friend were told this and were like what the &%^ is this guy talking about. I have a stick and wouldn't think of drilling holes in it, but we just wanted to research it to see what was up.

Thanks for some of the additional info:thumb:

Hi Guys. I think that we may need to get more info on exactly what your friend was referring to.

Drilling holes are usually a part of any valve body modification. Perhaps that is what he was talking about.

Horsepower can be freed up by lightening trans components, maybe he was removing material, and therefore, rotating mass from some of his internal trans components by drilling holes in them.

In fairness I mention the above stuff, but my assumption is that he may just be talking s$%t.
