I heard that skateboard or rollerblade bearrings are a great cheap replacement for the under the hood stiffer shifter cable bushings you can purchase from dsmpatrs.com and they are almost a perfect fit. I also heard they are sloppy with too much of a gap. Which is it, any one here tried this? If they were a perfect or almost perfect fit, these would be way better than the kit you can buy because of the much smoother movement with absolutely no play. these along with a shifter plate bushing kit would make the ever so sloppy 1g shifting seem like cutting into butter with a hot knife. Any experience with these bearrings?

I use rollerblade bearings, and advocate them to everyone who will listen. :thumb:

good info! this is nice :thumb:

make it twice :thumb: :thumb:

So the bearings fit without any shaving down or anything?

Is there a special size that you need to buy?

Thanks!

Minion, Just go to the store and buy some cheap rollerblade bearings. They will press right in using a small C-Clamp or any other suitable tool to push them in! :thumb:

Ive heard of skateboard bearings being used in honda short shifters, But thats honda and DSM are the shit

i've never heard of this, can someone please expalin exactly what the rollerblade bearings are replacing? pics? tranny/shifting is one thing im not very knowledgable on. so i really have no idea what ur talking about replacing, but i would like to know cuz who doesn't love cheap helpful mods.

ahhh, the two cables that are attached with little cotter pins to the tranny, gotcha, i guess i'll check that out tomorrow when we finish puttin the head on, thanx!

I did this mod today and after a test drive it seemed like it was harder to get into 1st and just a bit harder into 2nd, i had to completly stop just to get 1st to go in without grinding, anyone know if i need to adjust something to make this mod work better for me? first was never that bad before. thanks :dsm:

i had the same problem

Thanks, it's a lot better now. there's a nice walk thru on Vfaq for anyone that wants to know...

I found a little plastic bushing that fit over the short little cog where the cable moves the Tranny Shaft up & down - really took a lot of slop out of the side to side motion of the shifter - ANY lost motion you can get out of these things makes a big difference - now I gotta have some of this Roller Blade stuff...

Is that the 'Shifter cable bushing instal" Just instead of the brass things, you use rollerblade bearings?

my shifter cable is as short as I can make it and it is still to long to fit right over the nubbin thing. I was thinking about cutting some thread off one of the sies. that a good idea?
