Cleveland,
I have a 90 talon TSi AWD with a blown tranny. the syncros are just ruined. its terrible. i have already added Redline tranny fluid (shock proof). and that only helped the grinding a little bit. i found out that for a 90 rebuild by shepracing is over $1000, and i wont be able to do that for atleast a year or so. So i was thinking about taking the tranny out and just taking it there, because its like half the price. my question is: is there any way to take out the tranny without removing the transfer case and anything else in the the drivetrain area? this might be a stupid question, but im not sure. well sorry for going on like this. so if any one can help me out, i'd appreciate it. thanks

The transfer case is easy to remove, just be sure to strap up the driveshaft so you don't damage it or the bearings. However since the transmission is directly bolted to the transfer case, you will have to remove it.

I don't think shockproof is supposed to be used in the tranny. Shockproof is for the rear diff and transfer case. Try using Redline MTL or MT-90, or BG syncroshift, or Penzoil Syncroshift.
