Ok i'm about to buy a 92talon tsi awd. The guy i'm buying it from said that the transmission is newer but i won't go into any gear. I tried doing a search and from what i've read it's probably a broken shift lever. Is there anything else it could be and how much do you think this would cost to fix? I don't wanna buy the car if i'm gonna need a whole new tranny or have to put 800+ worth of work into it.

It's probably just a worn out slave cylinder. If it won't get into gear that might be the case. Replace that and the master cylinder (which is generally recommended to be done at the same time). Not sure if that's the case, but you can tell if either is leaking. The master cylinder will leak onto the driver's floor mat and if you just slide the boot on the slave cylinder and see some leakage then it needs replacing. It could be either one, but most likely the slave.

Ok how hard it is to replace the slave and master cylinders on this car? i replace both on my rx7 and it was pretty easy to do and didn't take long at all.

changing them are really easy, piece of cake, as easy as changing the oil.

you should have someone step on the clutch pedle, while you go under the car and check to see if the slave cylinder is pushing the shift fork all the way. ask the owner what where the symptoms it was doing? before it gave out. because if it was something that suddenly happend most likely its going to be worst. Good Luck

I'm having a Similar issue. NOBODY bothered to respond to my post though! JK. I found a leaking MC so I imagine thats why i'm not getting any disengagment. My clutch pedal just dropped to the floor and you can't hardley build preasure to actuate the shift fork. DAMN hydrolic clutches! So check your Master and slave cyyinder. i'm changing both of mine out before I go pulling a tranny out. Theres good write ups in the TECH section. AND RRE has a good FAQ on it.

Can you get it into gear when the car is turned off? If your not having pedal issues it could be a bad TOB, fork,or PP

While it probably is the slave cylinder, I found in my car that the springs in the clutch disk had actually popped out. It prevented my clutch from disengaging at all. Replacing my entire clutch did the trick.
