1st 3rd 5th gear problems, erratic. and shifter leans to left

ok i had this tranny put in a couple months ago it was from a junkyard so no way to know the condition but it worked pretty good at the start. it grinded when going into 2nd fast but if you shift slow its fine and that wasnt really a problem.

just today i pulled out of a gas station, shifted a little hard into 2nd, then went to go into 3rd... grind out. so i put it in 4th and cruise. well i get where i was goin turn off the car, when i come back and start it later all the gears work again... ok. then out of nowhere im driving later that day and all the top gears.. 1,3,5 grind when i try to put it in gear and the shifter just pops back to neutral unless i hold it in it grinds. also i noticed now the shifter leans to the left if its in neutral, its like halfway between being lined up with 1st and being lined up with 3rd.

any ideas on what could be wrong?

i have the same problem, to get the car in 1st i have to shift to 2nd first, 3rd grinds unless i press it pretty hard forward, and 5th is almost impossible to get in. a little help anyone??

The problem's you guy's are having sound's like the syncros ! Also check your shifter cables they might have ripped ! Good luck

it is the cables. to check this, have someone get in your car, tell them to shift from first to fifth while the car is off. odds are that when he tries to shift into first, third, and fifth you should be able to push the linkage on the tranny further than the cables were able to. If so, it is your cables, not your synchros.
