This feels very ironic. After helping out a few guys with tranny problems, I have one of my own now. I have a 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi automatic. It has a JDM GVR4 motor with a 14b, 450c injectors, manual ecu. Stock everywhere else other than freebie mods. The car has been running great since the engine swap back in may. I recently had a auto tranny fluid flush done at the dealer. A couple of day ago, when driving, the transmission shifted into first gear when I went to go drive (as it should), but when it was going to second, it threw itself into neutral (or so it seemed). If I didn't take the foot off the gas, it would have revved to the limit. I took my foot off the gas, expecting it to drop back down, and it wouldn't shift back, it just stayed in neutral. So I had to pull over. I threw it into park and then back into drive. It shifted into first and then to second, enough to turn around and get myself back home into the garage, but I'm afraid to drive the car again right now. Any ideas. I've never heard or seen of this before. Somebody please help if you are familiar with this problem.

ok i have a 90 talon n/t a/t and mine is doing pretty much the same thing. sometimes it shifts good and somtimes not . like sometimes ill have revers and sometimes not . ill take off and when it messes up itll go to shift into 2nd and theres nothin. but sometimes there is and sometimes like now its stuck in 3rd and it wont shift into neother gear. but like i said sometimes it does perfect so im thinkin electrical not transmission. i just put a brand new ecu on it cuz it fried and it did good for a week and then this happened. i changed fluid and filter and its still the same. i appreciate the help:thumb:
 
OK, I've found out the culprit. First we thought it was the end clutches, but it's far worse. The bonehead who did my install did not line the torque convertor into the transmission appropriately. So for about 3,000 miles, it was slightly on an angle and grinding itself away. It shredded the inside of the torque convertor, clogged up the cooler and lines and destroyed the inside of the transmission. Time to rebuild! :cry:
 
2nd is part band.When you get in there you'll see it.There are stonger bands available.Mine did the same thing,after teardown i found the hold tab-opposite of actuator-bent badly,but since youve got more troubles than that I dought its going to help.good luck.
 
well idk what the problem is now. i think its electrical because i put in a used rebuilt transmission ( out of a galant) and it all has all of the same sensors and stuff i imagine. buttt it is doing its third gear safty mode thing again same as the first time. but now i have 3rd gear and reverse(the other tranny was shredded). i need to know where the transmission computer is. i didnt know it had one but the ppl at the parts store have 1 in stock. i want to look at it for damage or something or damage to the harness connector. i just changed the ecu about 4 days b4 this happened. so if u could please tell me where the tranny computer is and if it evn has one i would check it out. thx for ur time.
 
The TCU is behind the ECU located in the back of the car stereo area of the console. I have the shop manual if you need a scan of any of the service info. Just let me know if you need anything.
