I have a '90 Tsi with the really long throw and really tall (dildo) shift knob, so the other day I expiramented with a Probe GT leather wrapped shift knob I had lying around, and the threads are the same, and it reduced the throw a decent amount, and I spent no money and did not cut anything, it also looks cool with the knob real close to the console....just thought I would let everyone know

yea, u can buy shift knobs in different hights, the stock one is pretty tall, the shorter ones let the threads come almost all the way to the top of the shift knob, it doesnt really change the throw any, just the hight of where ur hand is, but if ur happy with that hight its better for ur car then a short shifter, most of them dont give the tranny the ammount of throw it needs to get into gear smoothly
