just a quick question, Ijust got done installing my 2600 and Xact flywheel and waited about 275 miles before I even launched with it. well I launched on the street and everything was fine and about 2 days later went to the track. I pulled on the track heated my tires up a bit, everything was fine staged and revved it to about 3k and once I let off the clutch, the trans. freakin' cracked. right in the back between the axles, so i'm guessing either the clutch grabbed to hard or weak parts. New trans in Aug. if this has happened to anybody or has an idea why i'd to like to know b/c it is kinda scaring me to race again. Daily driven!!!

When you warm up ur tires, doesn't it make them grip better? Plus, the rubber from the other cars is on the starting line, so it makes tires grip even better. So, that plus the new clutch may have just put too much stress on the transmission. Just a thought. That sucks dude.

your tranny cracked is not due to ACT clutch, unless you really messed up the installation. If you think you messed up somewhere during installation, you couldn't even get to 275 miles for the break in period.

I would guess the flywheel fractured and sliced the tranny open during warming/slipping the clutch at the track. Good luck and keep us updated.

You can't be doing launches like that on your bare ole normal transmission. You didn't install anything wrong, you just can't launch like that, you will blow up your tranny. It's called the fast and the furious "blues." Everyone sees people burning out, and racing off the line on the tv and movies, but what they don't show you is how often the cars blow up and how much money is put into these cars. A tranny out the factory isn't meant for racing!!! If your like me, and love to race on the street and on the track. And you launch @ even as little as 3000 rpms, your going to blow up your tranny. Simple as that.

with a nearly stock engine, that won't happen. is your fwd or awd? because i drop the clutch at 4500+ with only traction issues, and slip it around there regularly.
my guess is that he probably handles a manual transmission incorrectly, and that's why it's decided to go to crap... that's just speculation.
but seriously... whose ever heard of a dsm with a bad tranny? ;)

Mine? Mines FWD. And I dropped my transmission. I blew the differentials all over the ground. I was doing launches @ 3000 RPM off the line. And smoked a few after graduation of HS. Went to Maryland... ahh well you can read the post in the Drivetrain/Tranny forum started by me. It's in there, called "Clutch, Flywheel, Tranny..." My whole story is in there.

i just posted in there for other's entertainment. if you had time to wait, you should've had it rebuilt by a good company that specializes in dsms... i'm pretty sure it was possible. if you couldn't rebuild it, get one from team rip engineering (tre) www.teamrip.com and stop worrying about tranny issues forever... well, almost
