Portage,
Alright, so I m getting pretty bad 2nd gear grind, the only time it doesnt do it, is when I REALLY baby it, I ve tried double clutching, adjusting the shifter, and everything else, so I think a rebuild is my only way out. My question is, on TRE's website they have a double synchro for 2nd, I m wondering if I should do this, or go with a full rebuild? All the other gears are fine, but this really pisses me off and I m wondering if it s hurting, or has hurt, anything else. Answers, opinions? Thanks

Well,

The problem with trannys is that its hard to say exactly what you should get until you've actually opened 'er up and see the condition of all your gears & synchros. Double Synchros are an absolute must, so I'd get them regardless - as for doing the rest, that's an issue between you and your wallet ;)

You may also want to check out John Sheperds' rebuilds, they tend to be a bit cheaper but with a build quality that is claimed to go unmatched. (I've got one of these).

uhm. That should be the John Sheperd. His 1G runs a 9.5 in the quarter - I believe you'll find his profile at the TOP of the 1/4 times that are at the top of this page :thumb:

John Shepard is an occasional visitor both on here and on NABR; here's his website:

If you're wondering what his claim to fame is, it's his 687whp, 9.35@152mph DSM and all the tuning that went into it. Kneel before Zod. :thumb:

You might also want to look at a couple of other transmission folks:

TRE (who you already mentioned)
BM Tranny

All three are quite reputable shops in terms of DSM transmission work, and they all do a little something special with second gear. ;)
