At the moment i have a 98 non turbo, i will be going with a star stage 2 soon and what i was wondering is if the BM tranny insert, to make the front whell drive dsm's have LSD, will work on the 2g non turbo tranny. I would really like ot have LSD now and obvoisly when i do the turbo kit but i dont really fell like spending the 1100 dollars for the Quiafe right now. Also when driving i sometimes can't get out of first gear, it takes a few pulls to get out of gear but it comes out. I have checked the shifter assembly and the shifter linkage, i think it might be a worn out snychro, any thoughts on this also? Thanks in advance.

Not being able to take it out of gear would be more of an adjustment than a synchro.

The insert is a decent cheap alternative. If you want to do it right and once, spend the money. It's up to you. They both require the same amount of work to install.

thanks for the reply man i thought no one would ever answer my question. Anyhow my shifter has stopped getting stuck for reasons unknowsn but i'm not complaining because it won't cost me any money. And as for the limited slip it was an option i was considering but i figure i would just save up for the quiafe becasue i wold end up doing that eventually and why would i want to spend the money twice.

I dont think youre out of the woods yet, if the transmission wouldnt go out of 1st thats a sure sign that there is something wrong. Mine used to do it right before it completly messed up. It was pretty bad, it only happened when I raced and I would slip the clutch a little so it wouldnt spin the wheels, then it wouldnt go out of 1st. once I had to bang it out pretty hard, and that was it for that tranny, so then I just drove it home then to the dealer for service. "One out of many times".

If anybody else knows exatly why that is please post, why would it not go out of first what is happening in the transmission?

ya i figured that my problems aren't over completely but for the time being its not doing it anymore so i can be happy about that. But i am interested too if anyone knows why it won't come out of first some times.

Hey 98eclipsers, why dont you change the heading to
why does my transmission get stuck in 1st?
maybee we'll get more responses.

ive been looking for awd 2g turbos but theyre hard to come by for the right price with low miles or 6 bolt in my area, what is the BM insert, does it really make the front diff Limited slip, also how is the Kaaz LSD compared to to the Quaife LSD. Also how long does it take to install the LSD, my dads very good with cars so he can help me, made his 57 belair conv. when he was a kid into a 4 speed, so he has good mecanical ability to help, anyways is it worth it, its been hard to find a decent awd, and with the lsd, will i eliminate alot of the torque steer?

Someone tried to sell me a Kaaz LSD. You can find them on machv.
I forget what he said, but it had more to do with steering fast on corners; he was basically saying it had the advantage in that area hwere Quaife is more for straight line 1/4 ? Not sure. Ive asked about the Kaaz on DSMTALK, and one person ripped on them bad however, saying they break trannies. But thats one opinion, Id say call up machv and ask somebody. The VCE or the welded diff is mainly for racing , not too good for daily driving from what I hear.

Okay here you go, I bought the quaife from roadraceengineering.com and they are curently installing it on my transmission. I cant wait to see the difference, but i wont be able to pinpoint what made the biggest difference since i got there aluminum flywheel and act 2600 at the same time.

this link is for the drivetrain subject and you will see the kazz differential here.

and this link is directly to the quaife info from roadraceengineering.com

look around this site they have alot of information

Hope this helps,
Miguel
