Clutch or Tranny

Ok, I have a 96 Eclipse GS. I bought it almost a year ago, and the first day that i had it, the clutch went out on it. or at least i think thats what it was. i bought a new clutch and it was installed. Everything worked fine. Just today, the same thing happened to me, but now my buddy is telling me that its my tranny. When i was shifting gears, it seemed like it was slipping, and the RPMs went up to about 5k and then it finally caught, i shifted to second and then it was slipping again. it reved high before it caught again. When i got to the stop light i put it in neutral. Lights turns green, i put it in first, and nothing. Its like its still in neutral.

Any ideas?
