my friend has a 89 corsica that had the tranny go out on him yesterday. the car didnt make any noise or anything but 90% of the time if you put it in drive it will act like it's in neutral but if you shift it into 1st or 2nd it will go he just has to manually shift it. My question is that he has only this car to drive and I was wondering how long he can go like this since I need to give him a ride to work until he can afford a new car, he thinks that maybe the auto valve body is shot but he will be safe with just using the manual valve body, now I don't know alot about tranny's and I can't say that he is wrong but can somone who knows about this sort of thing tell me if he is right.

Well lets just say its a ticking bomb. He is right to a certain degree, but using the shifter with out a manual throttle body will start to slowly put that tranny in its grave. Tell him to keep up on his fluids and maybe consider even replacing the tranny filter to prolong its failing.Good luck:thumb: :dsm:

thanks, he got this car not to long ago and this just happened, the fluid is still red and it does'nt smell burnt so we are going to change the filter tommorrow to see if it is just plugged.
