Shifter Linkage Cables?????

I just had a Cyclone engine installed in my '90 GS and the shop is asking me for new shifter linkage cables because it's not engaging gears correctly. He thought it was the ACT pressure plate that was bad but when I told him that used to happen before he told me it has to be those cables. Has anyone experienced this? I can get the cables from the dealer for $160, does anyone know where I can get them cheaper? I need info ASAP please! Thanks...

My 92N/T talon did that and then the main shaft in the center of the tranny snapped. I still don't have a clue but the new tranny goes in this week.

I have replaced the shifter linkage in my 98 twice now, both times i bought used ones from a salvage yard for $15 dollars a piece.

if your car is still using the 90 tranny in the 90 chassis you shouldn't have any problems and remind them that there's an adjustment that can be made under neath the center console to accomodate for minor changes.

if you're using a different year tranny in a 90 chassis my advice for you is to get a full set of cables for both years (tranny and car) as well as a shifter for both and then play mix and match until you get it correct. while building my gf's 90 tsi awd with a 93 tranny we had to monkey around with this so much that i honestly can't even say what parts we have where anymore.

oh and i'll move this to drivetrain tech and see if it gets any more hits in there.
