ok guys, check it out.... yes i'm a newb, so if this question has been answered i apologize..... but i only have a couple hours to get back to the boneyard before they close.... i have a 1990 laser RS turbo, i need a new tranny, the junkyard has a 92 tranny....... will they interchange?? i would think yes, but the guy at the junkyard says no.... but it didnt really sound like he knew wtf he was talking about. please help!! (im gonna check the archives now)

I may be wrong,
but he may be right,
isnt the 1992 and 1/2 when they switched to the 23 spline???

i dunno, is there somewhere i can like search if the part numbers are the same or something?? if i cant use it........ i'm goin back to bed (thanks for the help by the way)..... oh by the way. this is for FWD not AWD i didnt mention that

the tranny will bolt right up, except for the shifter linkages. You have to get the 92 shifter bracket/assembly or linkage. If you don't get these parts, it will fit just fine with some bending on the 92 shifter lever. Good luck.

I have a question along those lines. I have a 90 Laser and am building motor from a mystery block. I have an extra 90 FWD tranny and just wanted to make sure it will bolt up. If the only differance is the linkage then I should be ok, but I just want to make sure.

yes it will bolt right up. Just make sure the two linkages are adjusted to engage all the gears fully. You might be able to get away with only adjusting the linkage length at the shifer assembly end and playing around with the linkage bracket at the transmission end.

If that doesn't do it, get a giant channel lock and bend the shift lever (passenger side). Bend it carefully because you don't want to damage the pin hole.
