when im driving i go threw a turn and it clunks rapidly really bad. i got the car on the lift today, I grabbed the wheels and shook them. the drivesside wheel moves a lot up and down motion. so I need a wheel bearing, but is that the reason why when i turn the car makes a rapid clunking noise?

my boots were not ripped or anything they looked good and when i took them out the ends were floppy and really loose so i changed them then the clunking sound went away

when the cvs get worn you only notice while turning at first. When the axles are straight (driving straight) the cv has the best contact, or rather shortest clearances, when turning these clearances are opened up because of the angle the joint is at, when the cv is worn the clearances are even wider causing the shaft to bang and skip on the inside of the joint (this is the clunking you hear).

i see. i will look at them when i get a chance. would stuffing them with grease help quiet them down?

If they are clunking that bad grease isn't going to help, the damage is already done. Pick up a rebuilt, they are fairly cheap now and most come with a lifetime warranty.

So did you put the other axles in and that didn' fix it? So you tore the tranny apart and The center diff was warped? What are you saying by showing us this?

yes. the axles didnt fix the problem. this is the part of the center diff that was warped. In this picture you can see how the housing it eat out, you cant see where it is warped, it is warped on the inside. The center diff was locking up and causing the rear wheels to act like a locked diff, when it was clunking the spider gearing the center diff were jolting then locking up.

Sounds like you may have had the wrong gear ratio in the rear diff. Might be something to check on before you replace the VC.

its not the rear diff, i owned the car that that diff came out of, it was the center diff inside the transmission, its like a spider gear setup in the transmission for the rear diff.

You misunderstood my post.
If the rear gear ratio doesn't match up, you'll burn up the center diff which is a viscous coupling. The AWDs have different rear gears depending on whether the car is a manual or auto.

DSM gear ratios

Trust me i undserstand, the center diff was cooked in this trans before i got ahold of it. the rear end is from my old 92 awd manual and it was fine when it was in the other car. The transmission is a US spec because i read the code on it and matched it with my old one, and i when threw it already 2 times. I put about 40 miles on this drivetrain so far.
