End Clutch

I have ordered and installed new steels and frictions for my end clutch. Overdrive worked for about 10 minutes afterwards, now it is back to no od. The frictions were bare metal on 2, the other one had 1 side left of it. The transmission type is a f4a22. It has 3 steels and 3 frictions. Should I consider doing a rebuild since those clutch parts are so worn? Car has 127K on it. What source should I use to get the parts for the rebuild? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same problem I just don't have the money yet. But there is also a good possibility that the seals on the end clutch is worn. You are most likely going to have to rip it apart again and replace that.

And, to save yourself further headache jus get an overhaul kit, and do the whole thing... Thats what Im doing.

Absolutely right , the end clutch seals are bad. What often happens is that when the clutches burn up bad the piston in the drum over travels, the lip seals stick out, and when the piston returns the lip seals get cut. It is never a proper repair procedure to just throw some clutches in a trans, as is illustrated here, it doesn't work that way. By the way, where do you think that all of the material that wasn't on your clutches anymore went?

I found some of it in the pan. Where is a good source for the master kit? I have another transmission I am picking up tomorrow I can build then swap. Thanks again.
