It's a JDM, will it work?

Top has 20, middle has 23, bottom in the hole has 25.

thats a 4g63 tranny obviously... its obviously a 'US passengerside transmission' so its off of an older evo, galant vr-4, or a galant gsx... if it were off of a galant GSX, it would be worth some big $$$s....

as far as it having a 23 spline output shaft for the transfer case: i would think its a 4bolt rear application, so 92+....

What is the difference between the GSX and the others and how can I tell?

Ummm... why would it be worth more money if it was from a Galant GSX? Those trannies are practically worthless to us over here, since the final drive ratios are different and the gears inside the trans aren't as strong. As for finding out which tranny it is, write down the code on top of the bellhousing and do a search on jgronline.com on the Galant VR4 message board, and I mean SEARCH, not just ask people where it is. There is information on there that helps decipher that code to tell you what car the trans came from.

you cant decypher jdm tranny stuff...

its hard to see the codes on there but they dont co-inside with US vin system at all. i couldnt even get a mitsu house to tell me if my t-case was a waranty item.

g-gsx is worth something BECAUSE its gears are different... i would be in the market for one since the math says 200 MPH at 8k RPMs.... just get a crazy airdamn made, some dish rims, cage/chute/dragger wing and you can be the 'fastest DSM ever'.... not to mention, the 5th gear ratio might be taller for component swappers.

The code is W5M332 WQNK NB9149. From what I've read, anything that has with WQ has different gear ratios 1-4 are really close and 5th is real tall.

yup. the WQNK is probably and rs transmission, the final drive is way different, if you install it, you will lunch the center diff. and it will lock up. it is possible to make it work if you switch the final drive from your trans, and probably the bell housing. mike at rre knows about this, the bell housing and the final drives are machined for each other, because of the pumping action to lubricate the gears. the key is the last 4 letters, all our usa cars have an "N" final drive, not a "W"

Ummmm...... that Galant GSX transmission with its really tall 5th gear is still really WORTHLESS. Unless you're up for machine work, you can't use GGSX gears in a AWD DSM trans; they don't "fit" correctly, and transmission gears aren't something you can half-ass.

Having said that, if you want a Galant GSX trans, let me know, a good friend has one that I'm sure he'd sell to you.
