[RESOLVED] Tips for filling transfer case and rear diff

Anyone have some? Theres very limited room, so even my small funnel doesn't work, since it lays almost flat to be able to access the hole.

Also, using this heavy shockproof it's so thick it doesn't poor quickly enough, so I've tried routing a small piece of hose up thru and attached to the funnel, but then it won't drain since the hose it too small and the fluid too thick, it just sits in the funnel, even after 10 minutes it hasn't gone down.

My next bright idea was to use a spray nozzle from a spray bottle I had sitting here. It is working, but as you can imagine its sooooo slow, and hard to pump my arms are getting tired, it would likely take me an hour of pumping to drain the bottle.. ha... If I had some sort of bigger pump nozzle it would likely be better, but I wouldn't know where to get one.

EASY...
Go get yourself a ~$12 oil pump at any local parts store... These things are cheap and are made of plastic but they work GREAT for filling both the T-Case & Rear Diff... I got one made from Valvoline and it was packaged in a plastic bag and hung on a pegboard. -Look for one in the gear oil section of Kragens. -It uses 1/4" ID hose that you then place in the fill hole and the rest of the pump goes into the bottle (quart or larger) of gear oil... Then just pump away until the excess starts draining out of the fill hole. Replace plug and move on to the next.

Got a link to this magical pump you speak of? Atleast a pic so I know what to look for.... I assume it's some sort of hand pump? Will it work with thick fluid well?

I'm in canada so I have no idea what kragens is.. I have napa and part source though, which is roughly the same thing likely.

I'v always use a tube connected to the end of the bottle. I use royal purple and its got like a nipple on the end for filling. I just stuck the tube to that and let gravity do the rest of the work.

Or use an oil pump like said before, just call up your local auto store and ask them if them stock them.

This pump that Boosted suggested works great. You can find at almost any auto parts store. The problem is you'll have to use a gallon size, because pump cap is big as any gallon sized container.

Nah... I just take a razor knife to the quart bottle's top... This works good for two resons:

1) the pump will fit
2) I don't have to d!ck with the PITA quart bottle cap seals.

Just cut it down far enough for the pump's body to fit and then trim the inner 1/4" tube slightly so that it doesn't get kinked inside the hacked quart bottle.

I fill all my diffs and my tranny directly from the bottles of gear oil. With the right angles and squeezing the bottle, then sort of rolling it up like a toothpaste tube to get it all out. Works like a charm and doesnt cost a cent

This is how I first did it, man what a PITA. Try it next time using a tube connecting from the bottle. You will never want to do it without a tube again. Why struggle getting the bottle in the right postion and trying to roll it up at the same time when you can just let gravity do all the work.

Yeah. I've used that pump that Boosted has on 2 diferent GSX's. Works like a charm. Just gets a little harder when you use heavy weight lol. Just be sure to wash it out real good after each use. I had a hell of a time getting it to pump as good on the second one as I had on the first. It was even a generic brand and it was a tough little sucker that kept up with my abuse of trying to pump it faster. Overall good investment.

Come to think of it...that pump is still probably sitting in my high school auto class storage cabin haha

Supa, I hate to tell ya, but that pumps looks like it will take a really long time. Especially with anything thick.

Same thing I do. It's not like it's hard at ALL!!! I just throw it up there quick to get it in the hole and just squeeze. As it gets empty, I just turn it up so that it fits to the angles I need it. Buying pumps to me is just a waste of money, you have to clean it all out, and then find a good place to store it. If you can reach to get a tube to the hole, you can get the bottle there to do the same thing. And it's a lot faster.

With this "spout top" or whatever its called, like on the napa gear oil's and alot of others. It works great for getting inside the fill holes.

You just kinda fold the bottle in half, then fold the bottom in, then I guess keep folding, while pointed up. On paper it kinda sounds dumb but in reality it works pretty damn good.
