I need to take apart my intermediate and input shafts. Is there any way of getting the bearings off the ends of the shafts without using a press? Any tricks or ways to do it?

Best trick I know is just taking them to a shop and having them press it off for you. Shouldn't take long or cost too much.

Looks like this is what I'll have to do. I was just seeing if anyone had any special way, because the local shop is closed for the night, but I'll just have to wait for tomorrow.

unless your mom or GF is pretty big (lets hope not) your going to need to take it to a shop and have them use the press :sneaky:

goodluck!

+1. Every other method I've heard of is destructive.

You may be able to do it with a vice and strong arms, but if you mess up, you'll be out more than if you had just gone to the shop in the first place. Save that practice for U joints :D

You are going to need a few things if you want to tackle this. If my memory serves:

12 ton hydraulic press, gear pullers, bearing splitters, seal remover, drift punch(s), snap ring pliers (maybe), etc. etc.

Bearing splitters worked on every bearing except one end bearing. It was so wedged on I could not remove it with any tool. Best practice is to "carefully" cut the bearing cage in half, then pull it off the shaft and press a new one on.

I agree, a torn apart transmission makes a disassembled motor look like childs play. I'd take it to a professional.
