I finished removing my tranny today for a TOB I thought was bad...what a moron I was... My clutch disk has about 6000 miles on it, just like my TRE stage II transmission. I thought my trans was to blame for the rattling noise that was coming from the transmission area and that the soft 'SHHSHHSshshshshSSHHSHShhshshs' noise was the TOB from the shop not adjusting the clutch pedal rod. The noise is actually coming from where the trans input shaft goes into the clutch disk. It has been making this noise since about two weeks after my trans install. The clutch disk was BRAND NEW when I had it installed. Very minnimal chatter, you maybe feel it chatter about 4-5 times when it engages during normal driving. No clutch slippage at 13 psi on Evo III 16g.

Is this a 'detrimental' problem or should I just ignore it until it starts slipping? I hope there is no other thread similar to this one and if so, just lock it.

In your profile it says you have an ACT 2100, I believe on some ACT disks there is a quality control issue with the sprung hub. The springs will rattle around and stuff sounding like a bad TOB. But on the newer disks it was suppose to be fixed, so not sure about yours since you said yours is new. You should search around on here, people have been discussing this.

It was installed unused, thats what I meant as new. The disk was manufactured back in early 2003. I was using a stock disk with the pressure plate:shhh: until it started chattering and disengagement issues.

How long ago did you buy it? If it is one of the older disks from 2003 as you say you might as well just sh*t can it and go buy a new one.

Early ACT disks had lots of problems with springs loosening and popping out with minimal mileage. I was one of the many unlucky people who had to experience this first hand and was offered no compensation from ACT. They just told me I had installed it wrong. Even after it was PROVEN that it was a known issue with their disks ACT offered no compensation to anyone who suffered from this failure.

There is a huge thread around here titled "Did your ACT Street Disk fail on you?" if you want more info on that known issue I would recommend looking it up.

So you only installed the new disc? Did you resurface the flywheel? What was the condition of the pressure plate surface?

I uuhh...'ordered' the mechanic to resurface the flywheel and to remove whatever material off the pressure plate. He did a 'bang-up' of a job on the work so there's no telling what was actually done or not. I didnt do the work because it was last summer while I was in summer school. Im sure the flywheel was resurfaced, but as for the pressure plate, I dont know. My next clutch will be a Centerforce Dual Friction.

So it could just be that you tried to use a brand new disc with a 2 year old pressure plate and flywheel that may or may not have been machined correctly, and the mechanic didn't adjust the clutch properly.

Hehe
Be sure that your pressure plate fingers don't go tooooo far when you r pushing the clutch pedal. Because if it goes, it will make the sound and problems that you r describing and eventually your clutch disc will fall apart.

i get a little noise from mine almost a ticking sound (i know it is not the lifters) i have had the tranny in and out a couple times for a clutch fork and TOB clip everything seems to be fine this noise only happens in neutral once you push in the clutch it goes away or if you are driving it does not do it i just think the clutch is a little noisy not as bad as a twin disk but still a little more then oem.

Ok Ive got a Simular noise out of my Newly installed clutch,
But Im running a Comp Clutch Stage 2, Street disk sprung carbon.
Ive had the Flywheel resurfaced and used the TOB that came with the clutch.

Im getting a Terrible Rattle, In Neutral, And GETS REAL bad when Reved at high rpms Almost like its gonna come apart! But its Not Always noisy?
It will go away with clutch pushed in or half engagement or when its Warmed up but it comes and goes whenever the only thing that makes it go away is pushing in clutch.

Basicly Ive come to the conclusion that its a cheap TOB and need to change it. Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen or had this problem.

I do not have this problem but one buddy of mine just put his 2900lbs ACT clutch with Fidanza flywheel on 3000gt vr4, and it does the same thing as u r describing. Rattles on neutral but works and shifts fine when driving (grabs like hell though :) It could be the bearing I dont know.

Mine has a slight tob noise (new clutch,,flywheel, act tob) ill be pulling the tranny (since it broke) this week.. ive only put 400 miles on it:-(
