Auto Tranny Downshifting

I have a 95 Talon TSI AWD a/t and sometimes when I'm driving it just downshifts for no reason. It doesnt do it at highway speeds, usually around 40mph or so. If I speed up again it shifts back into O/D. Just wondering if this is normal?

it does it on my car too. i have fwd and after work eachday i would go to my friends house and drive like really fast because no one was around but when i got to this hill i would always be right around 40mph and slowing down.... it would like rev higher. i always thought it happened when i went over the hill, but it turns out that it happens alsmost anywhere.

the only time it really sucks is when you slow down under 40 it pops back into the first gear and you start acclerating right afterwards. city driving is where this comes in the most, beats having to shift all the time though.... like those 5 speed guys!! o.... and sitting on hills for us is easy too. ask a guy with a act 2600 clutch how he likes to be suspended on a inclined hill. . just joshing ya.....

does anyone have the problem when your car goes from 2nd to 1st it kinda kicks into gear and it seems like it throws the car forward at all?? thats the only peoblem i have with my auto tranny.

you mean downshifting...I suppose thats what your talking about but you don't know that that's what its called. But yeah it's going from a higher gear to a lower gear so the rpms get higher.
