chtown,
Its a 98 eclipse gsx 5 speed with awd disconected right now drive shafts of transfer case is of and we took the v/c out and put ina welded one so we could convert the car over to fwd all right. The car has been fwd now fro about a month. SO tonight after work just driving normal and started to slow down for a set of lights and went to push the clutch in i heard a small noise then went to let the clutch out in 2ng gear ( slowly rolling along) and nothing it felt like the tranny was slipping So i put the clutch back in and coasted around the corner got out popped teh hood looked and nothing out of the ordinary? So got back in put it in 1st gear and let the clutch out slowly and it takes off slow down put clutch in hear a samll noise when car is coasting clutch is in go to let the clutch back out while its coasting it almost sounds liek something is binding or grinding then while coasting give it some gas slowly and u can feel something grip and it takes right of. DOes this sound like the welded v/c is screwed up or came loose or have something to do with it? I had teh tranny rebuilt around a year ago worked perfect and shifts nice still shifts nice. WHat would u guys do next?? Thanks!

When a welded VC goes on a car without a transfer case, the car doesn't move, so I doubt that's the issue. Welded VCs either work or don't; there's no middle ground.

Ok update tonight i tried driving the car to my shop worked great for the first 10 mins or so then it started to get real bad went to get gas and couldnt make teh car move. Tried taking of in first 2nd 3rd nothing just let the clutch out and noting (just like it was in neutraul) Then finally a snap and it would move go a few feet and nothing again. So it would drive very slowly in first gear thats about it for at least 5 mins then i got it into 5th all the ways to our shop ( about 7 mins a way) Then tried to back it into the shop and a big grind and clunk goin in to reverse it would not back up then finally got it to go about 20 feet and nothing so i pushed it into the rest of the way. Im goin to start taking it out on Monday eving. What do u guys think it sounds like?? Clutch?? Center differential??? V/C?? Or deeper in??? In still shifts smooth?? Thanks
