About 700 miles ago I installed an act 2600 street disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing. About a week ago, the transmission started to grind going into first and reverse. Checked the system and found the problem to be a leaky master cylinder. I replaced that tonight and bled the system. The car will not go into any gear now and when the clutch is pressed in, the transmission will move away from the block almost a quarter of an inch!? Does anyone have any clue why this is happening? I pulled one of the transmission bolts just to find that its threads where filled with metal:cry: Im just at a lost right now... I have no idea what to do!??

edit: all the transmission bolts were torqued to correct specs in manual

Well you said all the bolts "were" torqued to specs, are the "still torqued" to specs or not?

If one of the bolt's threads were filled with metal then that means you probably stripped the threads on that particular bolt hole. Drop the tranny and helicoil that bolt hole and you'll be fine. But be very very careful while doing so that you don't over-drill and tap into a coolant or oil return.

Ok so here is an update. I went out today and checked all the other transmission bolts. It seams that the only one that did that was the one closests to the slave cylinder. I also noticed that it was not an oem bolt but a napa replacement. Upon even further inspection it looks like the previous owner machined a longer "rod" for the slave cylinder. So after lunch im going to go out and swap that rod for the stock one from the parts car and see what i can do about those threads.

A longer rod will not cause your transmission to seperate from the block in any case. Your problem lies with attaching the transmission to the block or with the transmission case itself.

You said the transmission is pulling apart from the block closest to the slave cylinder? Is that bolt tight or stripped? If it just loosened up, throw some loc-tite on it and put it back in. If its stripped, get a good tap for it and tap it out and throw a new bolt in there.

As Matt said, your master cylinder rod has nothing to do with this! I believe that you have two problems:

1. Tranny to engine mounting. It isn't unheard of for those bolts to come loose with-in weeks of being put together. I would take ALL of them out, one by one, and inspect them. Make sure that they are OEM and the right length (you could have used some other OEM bolts, which are longer and bottomed out on the inside, instead of holding the tranny to the engine)!

2. You didn't properly bleed the hydraulic system. Frankly, I do not see how you could do it right with tranny moving like that!

So first, attach the tranny to the engine and then, re-bleed the system. And keep an eye on those tranny bolts!

Also, did you make sure to use the alignment pins between tranny and engine?

Well i got the problem fixed. Thanks for all your help. It seems a few of the bolts had came loose and the one nearest the slave was stripped. So i took all the tranny bolts out and put locktite on them and put them all back in, and drilled and tapped the stripped bolt. On again thanks for all your help!:thumb:
