My clutch is starting to slip but only when I floor it (wot). I noticed it first when I was doing a 3rd gear pull on the highway. The nexted day it did it again in 3rd and then in 5th gear. It's been about a week since I noticed it and have been riding my motorcycle more now to keep the car parked as much as possible till I get the money to replace it.

So how long could I expect to be able to drive on it if I take it easy?

Would it hurt anything if I continue to drive it?

Would a long highway trip be out of the question? I want to make Nopi in St. Louis but that's 3 1/2 hours each way and I don't want to break down on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

First it starts slipping in higher gears, like what you've said. But it'll only get worse. If you take it really easy, I think it'll be ok, but definately replace it as soon as you can. Mine started going out in September, and I replaced it in December, and it slipped from 3rd gear on, but I didn't really drive the car often in that time period. As for what it can hurt, I think only the flywheel could suffer if you continue driving it.

I autocrossed on a slipping clutch, before autoxing it would slip in 5th and 4th and then just 1,2,3 if it went into boost. The autox was on a sunday and I got the clutch replaced the next friday. If you dont drive it hard you could probly get by with a little bit of driving. If you have another car it would obviously be better to drive that.

I have a bike so I'll drive that as much as possible, I dont like riding in the rain so that about that only time I would drive the car I guess but I did want to try to make Nopi....we'll see....I don't know if it's worth the risk. I just had a brake down on the highway 3 weeks ago due to the oil filter/housing comming loose and dumping oil....so I'm a little more hesitant.

Sept to Dec though gives me hope. The longer I can hold out the better for my wallet.:D

if i were you i would replace it asap , and not even think twice about taking that trip without getting it replaced. a week after mine started slipping , it wouldnt grab at all. and i didnt drive it but 100 miles after it started slipping. and i wasnt even getting on it after that.

It will not be cheaper if you wait and could easily be much more expensive if you damage the flywheel. Plus, it is dangerous to drive a car that is incapable of accelerating (to escape a hit from behind -- see your own avatar). I strongly suggest that you fix it now, even if this means borrowing money at 18%.

I'm still on the stock flywheel with a CF clutch and was figuring on replacing the flywheel this time anyways.

But that's a good point about not being able to accelerate if needed to.

The avatar picture wasn't me getting rear-ended, it was me t-boning a p/u truck, yes going backwards, on the highway 7 years ago. I didn't see the curve in the highway comming (late night w/friends not paying attention, sober) and turned late + hitting the brakes + high speeds sent me 90*, head 1st into a rail then backwards across to an adjacent highway into the truck. No one got seriously hurt, it was a miracle.

Looks like I will just park the car and save money. Thanks for the replies.
