2g shifter cable adjustment

To P8ntBalla,
The problems you are experiencing may not be rlated to cable
adjustment. The stock shifter is mounted on 4 soft rubber bushings
which give the shifter a very spongy feel. Further, the shifter probably
does not locate itself in the neutral position correctly, which will make
the 3-4 gate hard to located from the 1-2 gate. The cables themselves
are not adjustable. Install the urethane mounting bushings which can be
purchased from several aftermarket sources. Then bend the metal tab
that holds the ends of the spring which moves the shifter handle over
to the 3-4 gate position, automatically when you release the handle, so
that the handle does, in fact, move to that position when you let it go.
If the mount is firm, and the shifter moves to the 3-4 gate position, you
will enjoy the way the shifter feels, unless there is something broken or
bent.

P8ntBalla,
Look down at the shifter, with the console top off. Just behind the
shift lever itself, to the left you will see the two ends of the wound
spring which is held by the pivot bolt. these ends are on both side of
a metal tab that is part of the "C" shaped 1/8" metal frame that holds
the stick and pivot assemblies. This tab can be bent by using a drift
punch and hammer. Usually it will need to be bent to the right so that
the neutral position will be in position for the 3-4 gate. This may sound
complicated, but when you are actually looking at it, it should make
sense.
