Well what do you guys think? Have a laugh at my misfortune. This used to be a GVR4 1st gear, needless to say a 16g car should not be shearing teeth off 1st gear so another won't find it's way into my transmission. Enjoy.

Some say it is, some say it isn't. Shep says he's seen a lot more of them break than DSM gears. The taller gear probably wasn't helping in my heavy ass car anyway, well traffic was better but not by much.

I almost bought a shep tranny last summer and Shep himself told me he wont install them on his trannies anymore because of their weakness.

Wow, that sucks man. Kind of off topic, but would a GVR4 1st gear work in a 1g FWD tranny? And do you think that a FWD with light mods would have that problem? I don't think it would since it would just spin. Atleast FWD is good for something. Less broken drivetrain parts.

I'm pretty sure that the FWD 1st gear is a taller gear than the GVR4 gear anyway. What speed are you going at 7k? I know my friend's GST would go damn near 40 in 1st gear. The GVR4 gear only got me 33ish. Unless you wanted a shorter gear, but I don't know why. You should email TRE about it, Jon knows his shit about trannies.

Shit happens. Anyone who thinks they can mod their car and abuse it and it will hold up forever is a moron. Plan ahead for things breaking and I highly suggest a service manual and some basic tools as your first purchase after the car. Nothing sucks more than having to pay someone else to work on your car.

I say if your gonna get serious into modding DSMs you should keep a separate savings account labeled "oh shit-it broke again" with like 2Gs in it.

That GVR4 1st gear is a POS. Local guy here has broken a couple of them already. The kids some what of a tester for TRE and he does seem to know his shit so its not like he just drives like a moron.

I guess he decided not to run the GVR4 1st gear anymore due to its weakness.

After seeing all his issues, I'm glad I didn't get one. In fact, the guys at TRE told me to stay away from it when I was thinking about having one installed.

He told me basically the same thing, hence the reason I'm going back to a stock 1st gear.
