Was up everybody Im new to the dsm world.I maybe purchasing a 1999 gsx auto.Problem Is I dont really care for auto transmission. The sales man told me that his buddy could put a manual In for around 600.00 dollars. But my question Is to you guys should I have It done or just stick with the auto and have maybe a shep tarnsmission not the racing one.but the upgraded one.But the deal Is It gonna be my daily driver.I need the trans to be smooth for daily driving. Also I do plan on rebuilding the engine.I want at least a mid 12 second car.Engine has 128,000 on the clock.very clean car inside and out.thats the main reason Im thinking about purchasing the car.I had a 2004 srt-4 with a bunch of go fast goodies.but lets just say when Its snowing and you have a your winter beater just took a shit on you and your forced to drive the srt with those kdw's lets just say I dont have the car anymore.I really do like awd.any opinion welcomed.

If he's gonna do it for $600, DO IT! If you don't, refer me to him please. Problems occur more often with automatics than manuals, and thats a fact. You can however get near bullet proof trannies. Nonetheless, I'd go for the manual.

I'm confused,
Your either gonna have the "auto swapped to manual or keep your auto and have shep build you one"?. Shep doesn't build autos.
The autos themselves seem to be able to hold alot of power with just minor longevity mods (tranny cooler, shift kit, endclutches, around 200 bucks total). There have been a few cars with just these mods that have even hit 10s.The manuals will need a clutch and the trannys like to be a PITA, just look at this forum. :) If you prefer manual and he can do it THE RIGHT WAY then go for it. Maybe he meant $600 for labor PLUS all the parts you need?

Personally it all depends on what you want to do with the car. For a drag race only car / daily driving I'd rather have automatic anyday. If you do a lot of autocrossing then manual will be more beneficial. I'm looking into converting over to auto on my car because mine is stricly used for drag racing. Manual transmissions are a pita ( although easy to fix ) since they break all the time and clutches aren't fun to replace every 6 months or so either. I'd personally buy the auto and have it built up by ipt the right way and never have problems again.

yo thanks for the feedback. Its goona be my daily driver so I like the fact of an auto.but does shift real hard when you have a shift kit In It.Thats my biggest concern I dont want a hardshifting ride.only when Im on the gas hard.I mostly like to race on dragstrip anyways.yeah he told 600 bucks total.Seems like auto Is the way to go for me.

if any one needs auto stuff, my 95 tsi awd stuff is up for sale :D

shift kit in the autos are good, for what i felt of it for a few days, then something took out the trans :notgood: but its just a crisper shift, and you can feel it a little, not much, but the car loved it. Good luck :thumb:

600 sounds cheap.... OMG He would have it done, along with all the manual parts such as injectors/ecu and the works?? I'd do that.. but thats just me.

Hes not a 1g. So nothing different engine or ecu wise between auto and manual.

I don't know why having an auto is better for a daily driver??? I drive a 5-speed daily and do a lot of drag racing. It is great. Also you don't have to change a clutch every 6 months. My friend runs 11s on his ACT 2600 which he drives daily. A 5-speed is also more FUN to drive. :thumb: Autos also get worse gas milage.
