I had a wierd thing happen last night. I'm on the highway in the passing lane and I come up on this guy in a Tempo going under 40 mph in the passing lane. I hate that so much. But there's no room to pass him on the right because everyone else behind me is whizzing by. So I decide to gun it in between to cars. Well, I'm not quite sure what happened, but the transmission slipped (it's auto obviously) and it revved up to about 8000 rpms and appeared to be in neutral. So I let off the gas but the thing kept revving really high. So I hit the gas a few times to make sure it wasn't stuck, but that didn't seem to be the problem. I let off the gas again and it stayed up but came down really slow, it took about 30 seconds to come back down to about 3k. So I thought I might be alright, but it wouldn't shift out of overdrive. I drove it to a spot where I could stop. Let it rest a bit now that I actually had a chance to think about what just happened seeing as it all happened in the middle of rush hour with cars flying past my (including the guy going 40, haha). Everything seemed to be fine after that though and today it drove fine. Any idea what happened? Thanks.

Tranny might have gotten too hot. Make sure it's full of fluid, and change it to something good. A tranny oil cooler is also recommended.
