I just have a few transmission related coneceptions that I want to know for sure. First off, is it possible to install a transmission by yourself (or with an additional person) without a lift? Someone mentioned to me that it is not possible to do without a lift, just want to clear this up.

Second, my transmission has encountered some problems and most likely needs a rebuild. Could I remove the AWD transmission, transfer case, and driveshaft, then install my spare FWD transmission? Or would I also have to remove the entire rear end, or is it just not possible. Both the transmissions are 1990.

Thanks

A flat floor jack, or tranny jack if you wanna get really creative. But usually a lower jack will work. I use the aluminum race onces from summit, since my car is extremely low. Either way I usually get so pissed putting in the tranny I just grab it and try to bench the thing up there, use a jack though, it's so much easier. For the second question, I would just have the awd tranny rebuilt and not try to put a fwd in there, I would imagine it wouldn't link up right, and where the transfer case goes would just be a big open gap? Not for sure, but it doesn't sound like a very good idea. Good luck with it.
