ok i was cruising about 20-25 mph in 3rd gear and then my clutch slips then motor revs up. is my clutch shot, or is it that the "fingers" on the pressure plate got broken and/or stuck and it is not engaging (that is what my mechanic said it most likely was)? it is a new clutch. and new pressure plate. what could have possibly happened?

and if it is a bad pressure plate, could i use a stock pressure plate with the aftermarket clutch? or is that a bad idea?

the tranny will not do anything in any gear, even reverse.
also when i rev it up in gear the spedo goes up also, what does that mean?

another thing is that it would always grind into 3rd gear, unless i double clutched it at low rpm. and when i would up shift at high rpm(like around 6k) it wouldnt just slide into 2nd, it would like wait a second or 2 then go in, tranny has to catch up?

your fork could be bent, that would go before the fingers to. how many miles are on the clutch?

went to look at my car today and i started it up, popped it in gear and let the clutch out. it moved like a foot with a crap load of slippage. so i left it in gear and looked underneath and there was fluid leaking out like crazy. the pedal felt like normal, so i think that the clutch is still good and together, any ideas on what it could be. going to tow it home tommarow and jack it up to c where it is leakin from.

would the tranny work if it was out/really low on fluid?

also, the plate that goes over the bottom of the flywheel by the oil pan is gone. is it possible that a rock or something got in there OMG would that do it. because i was on gravel

the clutch assembly has roughly 800 miles on it

Sounds like maybe something happend down there. Was it clutch fluid or something else. And I think its a little bit more then just like a worn pressure plate becuase i drove mine with a pretty bad disk/pressure plate for a while and the worst thing that happend before I put the new one in was real bad gas mileage. Dont mean to freak you out just trying to help eliminate some stuff. I think the best thing you could do it drop the tranny. Hope I helped some.

it shouldnt be a bad pressure plate it has a new dual centerforce clutch and pressure plate in it. and i didnt check the clutch fluid(completely spaced that). but it was tranny fluid. the gl-5 that i just filled it with the other day when i changed the cv seal.

i see you are in iowa... if my pm/s dont help, mabye if you care to compensate me a bit for my time i could take a peek at it for you... i will see where you are in relation to my location... (didnt mean for it to rhyme)

thanks very much for the offer. might end up takin you up on it. but i called a tranny shop and they thought i prolly broke a shaft, and since there is a leak it either went through the case or cracked it.

if cracked could i get it welded? or is that a bad idea?

furthermore, if i cant get it welded ANYBODY GOT A GOOD TRANNY THEY WANNA GET RID OF?

will update after i get the car home today and do a visual inspection of it

i may have a case for you..... but we would have to swap your internals over.... i would say about 4 to 6 hour job including pulling your trans.

hopefully the internals have some good parts...LOL

that would be sweet if i needed one (and maybe if i dont, good investment)
:talon:

i checked the tranny and it was still full. i looked inbetween the tranny and transfer case and there was a leak there. so i drained the fluid in the transfercase and hardly any fluid came out. 1/2 qt if that.

so i decided to take my exhaust off so i could c around better (that was a bi***) and i saw that the braket on the drivers side cv shaft is loose, no bolts there what so ever, and the band around the boot was gone and greese was everywhere.

aslo i look up and under the intake manny i c 4 vacuum lines. only 2 of them have hoses on them. and a little more toward the driverside i c a eletrical connection hanging (cant find an empty plug to plug it into)

any idea what the connector could be?

are those 2 vacuum hoses important? should i hook them up to something or block them off?

sorry it is so mixed up.

clutch shouldnt slip that bad this easly.. unless you didnt break it in and beat the hell out of it in those 800 miles. if i were u i would take it to the place that did the clutch job and complain about bad workmanship. sounds like they didnt do a good job on the install of the clutch.

also what could i use on the cv boot to hold it on?
a hoseclamp?band clamp? would either work or am i guna have to get a crimp on clamp?

You filled it up with GL-5? I thought our tranies wanted gl-4. Isn't gl5 synthetic?? If so, thats not good.

i think what happened was the cv shaft popped out enough so that the car wouldnt move? is this possible. becuase the drivers side bracket on the shaft is not tighened down, nor does it even have any bolts.

as far as fluid. i put penzoil gearplus sae 80w-90 Gl-5 in it. the car manual says Gl-4 or higher 75w-85. the 5 weight difference shouldnt matter should it? i also put a half quart lucas in with it.

and im not entirely sure if the clutch slipped or not. just seemed to stop pulling. could that be cuz of the shaft coming out?

finally got to put some wrench time in on the talon. here is what i discovered

took the transfer case off i think that looks good- took the big cover off of it and looked in there. spun the output shaft to the driveshaft and everything looked to be good and functional :thumb:

then i started looking at the tranny and move the cv shaft up and down, i could c that the seal is bad, and that is most likely where the fluid was comeing from there (when the shaft was pushed up to it's proper place there was at least a 1/8 gap on the bottom) so i will replace that.

got the tranny out...only took me 3 hrs. but i took my time put bolts back into their proper places and took time to know where everything is at. dam their is a lot of shit in the way!!!!!

ok. here is what i found

clutch is still all together, flywheel is still in one piece i think

found the tob and looks ok (not sure what a bad one looks like)

and the fork behind the tob is still in 1 piece.

aslo the pressure plate has all fingures attached and kinda outward facing (normal right?)

so that all looks normal. must be something inside the trans itself?

took the clutch and flywheel of the motor today.

flywheel has discoloration in it. go warm/hot

clutch looks warn, but i am not sure if it is still good or not

pressure plate has discoloration in it as well, but still looks good

throw out bearing spins freely

clutch fork looks straight and good yet as well

going to take the flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate to a tranny shop tommarow to c what is good yet.

since the pressure plate seems good along with the clutch fork, and tob, along with no cracks in the case it seems to be a clutch disc problem right? or should i dig deeper into the trans?

got the talon fixed. turns out to have just been a bad clutch and a bad seal. got the clutch put in and while the tranny was out put a new drivers side cv output shaft seal in.
