Hello fellas. im sorta new to this Dsm thing. I recently purchased myself a 1999 Mitsubishi eclipse GS-T. I wanted a GSX but couldnt find one. Anyways my question is, I want to make a GSX conversion on my GST. What will it take for that to happen? Is is even worth it? Your advice and help is deeply appreciated. Thanks guys.

Yes its worth it, cost depends on how cheap you can find a donor car or the parts, it isn't easy but its possible. It's been done many times by members of this forum. I went up and hit that little search thingy up there and typed in awd conversion and I was in awd conversion heaven... try it

Exactly! Good luck with the conversion.

I am sorry, but I had to re-open this thread (and move it from Extreme Tech – where it DIDN’T belong), because I have a serious issue with this statement!!! Time for some tough love :).

It is absolutely NOT worth to convert GST to GSX, unless it is a Spyder GST (a convertible).

There are two reasons for this:

1. With Spyder conversion, you end up with a unique and VALUABLE vehicle. There have been at least a dozen or two of such conversions, but that still makes them ultra rare! Ending up with “hacked together” GSX coupe makes it worth LESS than a regular GSX.

2. Spyders used GSX underbelly because it is stiffer and they needed that additional stiffness for structural re-enforcement. That makes AWD conversion that much easier. GST coupes had different floor pan and make such conversion much more difficult.

OK, I can see someone who has years of love and labor invested in their GST taking a plunge and investing $2k-5k (depending on how much you do yourself). It would be ill-advised, but somewhat understandable.

BUT TO BUY A GST COUPE JUST TO COVERT IT TO GSX IT PLANE STUPID!!! Please do not say that you couldn’t find a GSX, there are plenty of them around! They might have been a couple of grand more expensive, but they are out there. Doing this conversion will cost you MUCH more!

If you want a GSX, sell your GST and buy what you really want!

Thanks guys for the info, and I did find a few GSX's but they were either not well taken care of or they had too many miles on them and the engines looked like crap. I still remain confused a bit one said it's worth it the other said it's not. I am planning on getting a big turbo in the near future and right now i don't like the fact i burn rubber everytime i slam the gas pedal. I want to be able to take off when i need too. Thanks

I'd take GRNDSM's advice. There are alot of differences between the two that aren't easily swapped.
