I can't seem to hit a shift when I run with anybody. Besides my inexperience, I'm sure a good part of it is the tranny. My 95GSX, only has 40K on it, I had the fluids changed at the Mitsu dealership but the shifting has an edge to it that bites me when I blow through 1st gear at 7500rpm. The other day I just beat a new Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is sad!I'm thinking of adding a LSD along maybe with some double syncro gears. Since I got more money than sense at this point, I need a plan to improve my shifting. Do DSM's ever shift smoothly? Thanks, for any help!!! :thumb:

NO. Oh wait. That LSD in your all-wheel drive car makes perfect sense. You'll be mario andretti in no time. Make sure to get the nicest most expensive one you can find

I think my thread has spawned a bit of sarcasm and insincerity :thumbdown If you don't know anything, this thread's not for you :shhh: Of course it could be the driver! I suppose nobody else ever had a problem with shifting that wasn't their own fault  What I want to know is if you had problems, was it the basic design that could be improved, with a few minor changes regardless of the cost! Don't blow me off, cause I've got a few extra bucks :D

No the stock DSM transmission doesn't shit the smoothest. Chances are that your 2nd gear syncro's are going out and that is causing you your suffering and also you not knowing this is causing your flames. Anyways. You can get your transmission removed and sent to TRE for a rebuild. They can install double syncro's into every gear and get you a LSD or spool installed. Mine is on it's way back from them right now. I went with a spool. Some hate on AWD people that like to turn all 4 tires instead of the 3 tires that get power normally. Don't listen to them. Do what you want not what everyone tells you to unless it sounds like sound advise.

clue #1:

7500 RPM

and basically.. learn to drive. I could nail every shift in my '90 TSI AWD (w/93 trans), the 2G trans is far superior, so if you're missing shifts. (and I honestly don't know how you'd do it), you need more practice.

I quess I'm going nowhere with this thread! :thumbdown Thanks for nothing!

No, you're going somewhere, there's a big arrow pointing in one direction.... you're just not seeing it.

If you miss a shift.... there's a reason, you choose to see it or you don't.

Your first post gives insight.

hafstar95GSX I can't seem to hit a shift when I run with anybody.

It's not your trans, it's you. If you mis-shift when ragging on it, but can hit them normally... practice.

um you know what, before getting my dsm i drove a 97 civic and never missed a gear while driving it for almost two years. Now i grind into second and its hard to get into third sometimes while racing. any driver who has a perfect transmission and clutch and moderate driving experiece shouldnt ever miss a gear, especially when they try like me. its frustrating and embarrassing when missing a gear and it shouldnt happen. its not my fault its the car's. "wtf, the clutch is down and the friggin stick wont go down into second without making a horrible noise!!!"

My advice is to do anything you can to tighten up the stock shifter, buy some shifter plate bushings, get a short shift if you like, replace the shifter cable bushings, and check your transmission fluid. you cant go wrong with gm syncromesh, if your replacing fluid. Also someone also said it can be worn out synchros. That is a great possibility. My advice would be to do anything you can before taking out your trans. all the things i mentioned cant hurt you and wont cost over 100. plus they make shifting a lot more enjoyable.
