How hard would it be to install a new clutch...i believe mine just went out and well i figure me and my father could do it, just wanted to know how hard and if there is a website or any articles on what to follow to install a new clutch...my dad has the basic idea cuz he deals alot with cars but he just not exaclty sure. thanx

well actually it may not be my clutch that need be replaced...maybe someone can help out. I could hear first and 2nd gear like u could hear it rubbing or something liek that, and first gear was awfully hard to get into not like usual. and then i back up my drive way and it feels liek the car is goin to stall but im not stalling the car, the transmisson is like knocking or somethin and then my hole car stops in reverse and im at 2200 rpms an dstill lettin out the clutch and car not goin newhere in reverse and i floor it so more to like 5000 rpm and the car still doesnt move in reverse, then the exhaust smokes soem and it stunk really bad and i turned it off, but its now stuck in reverse and i cant get it into neutral or any other gear...and im afraid to force it cause it might screw somethin up worse then what is already screwd up...anyone got any ideas wuts wrong...fork, synco, or clutch maybe? thanx

From what you said, could be few things. Only way to know is to tear it down.

well whats the best bet then..take it to a shop and replace it with a used one or try and take it out myself and put in a used one...im more so lookin at time also, i have school so id have to work on it at night. at a shop u pay 900 dollars or so but if the use done doesnt work they will fix it mean while if i do it and it doesnt work i have to pay again and fix it or take it to shop to get fixed still. i just cant decide...im really lookin for fastest way with reliability cause well i hate seeing my car just sitten there.

um ... if you bring a shop a used tranny you yourself picked up and they put it in and it doesn't work they sure as hell won't fix it. Afterall it's not their fault you bought a bad tranny. It will cost far more than $900 to get a used tranny from a shop and have it installed ... I'd say more like $1500.

I've always just found used trannies online and put them on myself. You can find used trannies for $300 and up .... but from reading your posts I don't know if you should be the one to install the tranny since it appears you aren't all that experienced with these sort of things. I'd say find a used tranny and pay someone to put it in for you and hope it works. The only thing is I would drop the old tranny first to make sure that's really the problem and it's not just something simple that needs to be replaced.
