Well my gsx started to make a little rattle noise under the car. Turned out its the carrier bearings. Question is is it better to just put silicone in there or just change the bearing. If opt to put silicone how long would this fix work and is there any bad side to it since it is an easier fix :thumb:
thanxs in advace...

i would replace them, well i have replaced mine. some people get away with silicone for a while, and others it won't solve the problem. if your tight on cash, need a quick fix or don't plan on having the car i'd put silicone in there. if you plan on keepin the car, driving hard, or just want to go that extra step replace them (i'd do both at the same time)

Hey thanx guys I think im just gonna go and do the silicone for right now since I am tight on cash. I went to a shop last night after work and said it would be about 400 to rebuild the whole drive shaft. I think the silicone is good for now. My next question is how long do you think this fix would work for anyways.

its $400 for yolk, universal joints, carrier bearings, new hardware from mitsu. so if they are doing all that with the labor then that isn't too bad. don't really know how long it'd last, but it should get ya though winter i think.

I siliconed a set new carriers and have not had any issues for 5 years now. :dsm:

I siliconed my front only at first then did the rear after the one I replaced it with wore out after < 2 years. The only downside is that any imbalance in the DS (lobro/U-joint/rear wear) will be felt as the silicone transmits more vibrations than the OEM rubber boots.

Th silicone fix is definitely worth a shot before replacing as is low-cost and can always replace if does'nt work out for you :thumb:
