Okay, I apologize in advance for this question. I'm not really a newbie, but i've never really gotten a straight answer on this. If you've seen the first FaF (in Walker's Eclipse), or played NFSU2 (with the view from inside the car), you know what i'm talking about. I was wondering if the short throw shifter is what causes the "click" sound while changing gears. It sounds like the gear is locked into place. Is this sounds attainable with a short throw shifter, or is this just some Hollywood effects?

I don't know there's gotta be something that makes that sound, I mean why would NFSU2 copy directly from FaF? I mean they know that movie exaggerated things. Maybe its a built transmission?

A dog box would make that sound, so did the car have one.
Don't quote me on this but I believe the eclipse was owned by the president of the IHRA.
Not sure though.

It is Hollywood effects to make things more interesting. Same reason all sounds in movies are exaggerated.

The closest you will get is the sound that using metal shifter plate bushings makes. It is not nearly as loud as the movie.

metal shifter bushings make a quiet noise maybe it's a typical H-Wood over exageration :thumbdown

IIRC that's the sound of an AK47 chambering a round.

Are you serious or just joking?
'cus that does sound like somthing hollywood would do.

Only time I've literally heard mine click into gear, was after I put a new clutch in and hadn't properly adjusted pedal engagement height.

I know, I know! How about a metal shift gate with a metal short shifter. Then when you slam the shifter forward the shifter rod will smack into the gate causing that clanking noise when you shift.

However I am never an proponent of modding your car so it makes a certain noise. Noises should be a by by-product of speed.

Just another thing that made me shake my head in that movie - the sounds of the gear changes, not to mention the number of gear changes needed when accelerating. You'd think Walker had a 10 speed transmission in that car.

Me and my buddies watched it once and listed everything we thought was wrong.
If I remember correctly, there were 7 gears total, 3rd ended at 120 and the 3-4 change jumped to 140, (where the car topped out) then there 3 more gears. WTF!!!!

Another big one was flameable nitrous. Read the bottle idiot, "Non-Flameable" right on the side.

Can anybody think of any others?
