you have the wheel hub nut and shit off right? just get a small pry bar and pop the axle out of the tranny with that
Easier said than done. It's held in with an internal snap ring, that can become a major pain in your ass in no time, and the older the car the worse it seems to be. On one car I had myself and two other people all armed with the largest prybars at our disposal (one of them 4 feet long) trying to get one out for 20 minutes. Sometimes they just get heat seized in and refuse to come out.

A prybar, persistance, and maybe some help are all you need to get it out :)

Nor have I, Brian, but some people have had a horrendous time removing them.

Leverage is the key (at times like these).

Took mine out today and it was a b*tch. Than I hit my head on the trans that got me fired up and pried the crap out of it than it popped right out.

Just keep prying at it. I hade a 2 foot long srewdriver too. It'll come off.

yeah i have been prying at it. it won't budge. called a local tranny shop they said to go in from the other side of the differential and poke it out with a long skinny screwdriver wil taht work

I was going to use a prybar on my axle I did the other day but I didn't have enough space. Used a longer REGULAR (no phillips obviously) screwdriver and popped it out first try no problem. The only hard thing about axles IMO is getting the nut off unless you got yourself a big breaker bar :thumb: .

had same problem on one of my friends cars, we could not get enough leverage to get it to pop out, i cut the metal ring around the the boot right at the tranny, and it practically fell off then, thats what holds it so tight

Take a prybar with and tap it in with a rubber mallet. One SWIFT jolt and it should pop out. Do not push it out. You need one forceful break and it should come off. I had the same problem with mine.

We have a winner! The shock from a quick hammer blow is the key. I do it with a big flat-blade screw drive and a plastic mallet and there is zero drama, the sucker just pops out.
