um, not that kinda gear, im talking about gearing meaning Final Drive gearing.

I couldn't resist! :p There is no BEST gear for 1/4 mile. It all depends on your setup. I would say 95+% go with the factory gear ratio which seems to work pretty well considering the wide range of mods on everyones car. It makes more of a difference how well you hook it up. Put your money and research into a good clutch and Limited slip differential and learn how to launch it well.

As far as I know (and I've been around a while) the final drive gearing is not changeable. The next best thing is to find tires of different diameter. The stock gearing is set up pretty close already.

The final drive can be changed if you change the front ring and pinion gears as well as well as the corresponding rear ring and pinion to match it...ive got a 4.26 (64 teeth on the ring gear and 15 on the pinion) front ring and pinion for my car and im still working on getting the corresponding gear for the rear...
