Anyone ever take there tranny apart? I have a fwd Talon tsi. I'm still in the process in taking it apart. I need to thread a hole and I don't want to take the whole tranny to the shop so I'm going to take the trannt apart and just bring in the shell. It's only the bell case that I need to take.

What year is it ? and of course what type is it ?
Did you just strip out a hole or what. I guess I'm looking for a little more detail.
Thanks

It's a 1991 Talon TSI FWD. 6 bolt motor. If you're familiar with the tranny mounting to the block, there's only 4 bolts. 2 on top, 1 on the front next to the slave cylinder, and one small bolt in the back. The one in the back broke off into the tranny so I took my tranny off and couldn't get it out so I drilled it. Didn't really do me any good because now there is a small hole in the bolt I drilled. I want to take it to my shop guy so he can drill the hole bigger than original and tap the hole. This will make it stronger.

First have you tried and Easy out ?
It for taking out broken bolts.
Keep in mind that if you make the bolt a larger size you will need to drill the hole in the block out larger too so the larger bolt will fit.
Did you hit anythreads when you drilled it out ?

I finally got the tranny apart and all the insides out. The case is surprisingly light. Well I took the bell casing to this automotive machinge shop. They told me that they can drill out the hole and put in a new steel thread. I haven't seen the steel piece but I imagine it's like a nut with threads on the inside and out. They will thread the hole then screw this steel thread in the hole. Now I will have a new hold that's threaded in steel. The guy told me that it's very strong especially when the steel thread is in alluminum.

I just may try this path. He said it may be 70 dollars but he's not sure. Maybe cheaper.

Hopefully I get it done soon so I can get my car going again.
