I own a 1990 Talon TSi and during every shift while the car is moving the transmission grinds. however, if the car is stopped the gears can be shifted with the clutch pressed in and you will hear no grinding. so if i am at a stoplight and i put it into first there will be no grinding, but after the car is moving you will hear a grind from each gear. the only way to avoid the grind is to shift very lightly and not pull the car into gear, rather just ease it into each gear. i am wondering if the synchro is going out, or what the problem may be. keep in mind that the clutch is fully depressed at the time of each shift also. anybody have any ideas?

Usually the car will have a just a gear or two grind not all of them. I am thinking it is you clutch that is not adjusted very well if it grinds all gears, it could also be on its last leg. If its fairly new then try and adjust it. If that doesnt work it may be time for a rebuild. :thumbdown

What gear oil are you using? If it's an ordinary 75/90w gear oil that could be the problem. Definately use one of the popular DSM oils, such as GM Syncroshift, Syncromesh, Redline MTL, Redline MT-90, or the one Defiant always recomends.

im new to the whole DSM scene, so i am not very well informed on this kind of stuff. on this car just how hard is it to adjust the clutch? is it something i can do at home or not? another thing...i have kind of ruled out the synchro's going bad because this car has been this way for about 20.000 miles or so. the previous owner said that he had the car diagnosed as having a bad tranny and that it would go out. but here 20k later the transmission is still alive. if it was synchros it would not have lasted that long, correct?
