i have asked this question numerous times & nobody could answer with a logical answer. it's that time again. if anyone has experienced this problem,,,,please let me know how you fixed it. everyone else who has replied to this thread on other sites before said "mine does it too, it is just a shitty 1g drivetrain, deal with it"

it has happened since i bought the car. it does not intensify when i drive the car hard. the car still shifts fine (usual 1g sticking/grinding once in a while). when the car is in gear & i am slowing without assistance of the brakes, i hear a wob, wob, wob, wob...come from what sounds like the rear of the car (hard to tell, interior is gutted). the sound comes and goes, even while slowing. when i go around a bend it stops. if i push the clutch pedal in, it stops. i have changed all of the fluids, i have a brand new clutch, brand new brakes, new pass side rear calliper, new rotors. has anyone ever had this experience on thier 1g?

please guys, no guesses... it is driving me insane that i don't know what this could possibly be. thank you to anyone in advance who helps out.

This is a guess even though you said no guesses but thats probably the best anyone on can do by internet sound effex (wob, wob, wob). Sounds like the exaust from the back prssure its getting, cause it is actually doing negitive work becuase the cars momentum is turning the motor. Thats all I can think of it being by your descrption of the noise and it doesn't sound like you have a real problem with your car.

mike, thanks for replying. i know it is tough to explain/understand over the net. it made this noise when i had the stock exhaust on & is still making the same noise with my buschur exhaust on. same tone, everything. i don't think that it is the exhaust. i think that it has something to do with the drivetrain. i am hoping not, with fingers crossed. i guess i will find out what it is whenever it decides to break. thanks for the help though. later

Any vibrations in the car when this happens?

Honestly It could be a Wheel bearing. Which over time will get worste and create more problems in the car. I assume since it's a 1G it has higher milage.

Like posted earlier it's hard to tell over the net.

But post what happens during - vibrations, sounds, torque steer, usually you'll hear things more when you come off the gas as the sound of the motor and exhaust are quieter.

THere is always some slack in the drivetrain. From the tranny, to the transfer case, to the driveshaft to the rear diff, to the axles. What you are hearing is the drivetrain slack being taken up and then released as the car slows.

When you engine brake, the engine is trying to spin at a certain rate. The drivetrain via the gearing transfers this rate to the wheels. But the wheels wants to spin not dependent on engine rpm, but rather on the surface speeds and momentum. So its a tug of war between the engine and the drivetrain. This is why its called engine breaking.

As the drivetrain wears, the slack because 'bigger', for lack of a better term. There is now more room for the components to 'slap' each other. What you are hearing is the tug of war via the drivetrain slack between the speed of the car and the engine.

The reason you don't hear it when you through in the cluch is because you have taken the engine out of the loop and now the momentum of the car takes over.

thanks for replying guys. Tevenor...that makes a lot of sense. i thought that it was wear on the drivetrain as well. that would also make sense why the noise seems to be coming from the rear of the car.

thank you to everyone who replied. i appreciate it

Stangabishi, i think i replied to your previous post about this ,did you ever check your driveshaft carrier bearings for play?Theres a vfaq at dsm.org ,maybe you should check it out this time.

The carrier bearing, if worn, will make the drivetrain issues louder since now the driveshaft is bouncing all over the place so definitely check that. I don't think its the source of your wob wob wob though.

my 1g does the same thing. but mine adds a high pitched howling sound in their too LOL.

My 1g has the same "wob wob wob" sound mentioned above, and the same high-pitched howl when cruising. I think it's normal.

i had this problem not too long ago. i started hearing noises coming from the rear of the car when braking. i noticed it was my driveshaft rubbing against my exhaust.
