This problem has been on going, and I posted it a little while back. I am grinding 3rd and 4th quite a bit when I get on it and shift near redline. I first thought it was my synchros, but it wasn't. I took the trans out and ended up putting it right back in. The clutch pedal assembly doesn't wiggle around if I play with it with my hand. (that doesn't sound right). The master and slave cylinders don't leak. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Also, when I put the transmission back in and bled the clutch, it felt like I had a little bit more loose play at the top of the pedal and that the clutch would start grabbing almost immediately after I let it off the floor. I adjusted it as much as I could and it stayed that way.. But after driving it for about a hundred miles it started catching further and further up, and now I have about an inch or two of play at the top and it catches about halfway up.
Could that have anything to do with it?

hmmm, so ur clutch Ped at first was catching right above the floor? did it grind 3-4 while it was doing that???? and then it loosend up, I say ut clutch Master is Busted. might as well change master and slave...

I was under the impression that the only problem you could have with the master or slave is that it would leak? How can I truly check to see if either of them are the problem?

Chris,

Did you back the cruise switch out on the clutch and adjust the clutch rod? Let me know if you need me to give you a hand, I can show you what I mean. I PM'ed you about something so check your messages.

John

Hey John.. The clutch master rod is adjusted out as far as possible. It's about 2 threads away from coming off. I was told that chances are it's my Master cylinder that's causing it, by more than once person.. What do you think?

Do you have any free play at the top of your pedal travel?

It COULD be your master cylinder. It sounds as if your hydraulics are pumping up.

No, and the master cylinder rod under the gas pedal moves perfectly in conjunction with the clutch pedal when I push it. Meaning that it probably isn't the pedal assembly.

Actually, lately I've only been having this problem in 3rd and 4th gears. Does that help at all?

I was having the problem in other gears a while ago, but I've only noticed it for 3rd and 4th lately.
Could just be the way I'm driving though

It could definitely be the master or slave. What trans fluid are you using? The benefit of the 3/4" slave is that it moves the clutch fork further at the expense of a slight increase in pedal effort. I'll give you a hand with it. I might be over at Pete's on Saturday to drop my tool box off anyway so that'd work for me. My clutch got a lot better by backing out the cruise control cancel switch that the clutch pedal hits when it is all the way up. If you havent done it already you can loosen it up. I took my cruise out and I think yours is gone too so maybe we can take the switch out all together. It sounds like you've got the right stuff with the longer slave rod and all so it has to be something else.

You're right, I don't have the cruise control anymore and I'm not sure if the switch you speak of is still there. Maybe we can take a look this weekend.
I'm using Pennzoil Synchromesh right now.
Also, I haven't actually installed the extended slave cylinder rod yet. I was hoping to find out the real cause of the grinding so I wouldn't need to use it.

PM me your phone number again John, I deleted the other one by mistake. :)
