Ok, so my car is in the shop for a tranny rebuild. The replacement trans came in today and I was finally able to get a quote from the shop. Keep in mind, I am only having a partial rebuild done because the replacement trans is in good shape. Anyway the work to be done is: Replace 2nd gear, Replace 1-2 hub sleeve and needle bearing, Replace 1-2-3 synchros, Replace shaft seals, Drop/Reinstall trans, that's it. I was quoted 15hrs of labor at $70.00 per hour for a total of $1050.00 just for the labor. Personally, I feel like I am being ripped off badly, I think this shop is trying to take advantage of my percieved ignorance regarding transmission repair. My question to you guys is do you agree or disagree with my assessment and what have been some of the typical rebuild costs you guys have experienced. Thanks for any input or info I can get.
Peace
BTW- I already have the relacement parts that I got from TRE.

Most DSM shops charge a flat rate of anywhere from $225-400 to drop/install a trans, depending on whether it is a 1G or a 2G. Since you have a 1G, expect $225-275. They also charge flat rebuild rates. I charge $300 flat labor rate on tranny rebuilds. BM charges $375, and TRE charges $500. Going by these numbers, you are paying a lot.

just spend the extra dough and get the sheperd rebuild that way you dont have to worry about it ever again. once my tranny goes, thats what I am going to have done thats fo sho.

Like I said, I alredy have the TRE rebuild parts, which should be comparable to Shep's. Shipping takes 6 days each way and is $200.00 each way from Hawaii so that makes sending my tranny out to be repaired cost prohibitive. That is why I am asking about typical rebuilding costs, minus parts, 15 hours just seems excessive to me.
