has anyone had any experience with the level ten tiptronic-like device where you shift on demand with two buttons. supposedly you just plug it into your ecu or something. This looks like the way to go if im going to start heavilly modding my car, (and a tranny bulletproofing kit) just looking for some advice thanks in advance

I don't know about the level ten device you are talking about but you could try and find a trans from a Pro Rally Lancer Evo. I believe Getrag makes them for the rally cars. I also hear they cost between $15,000 to $20,000 so good luck. You could never install a device to your ECU and make it shift for you there would be ALOT of work needed to the trans also.

The Getrag unit will only work on the newest EVOs as the motor sits on the passenger side and the transmission on the driver side, which is the opposite of a turbo DSM. The Level10 unit is a box with 4 buttons and a switch. The switch activates the unit, and there is one button for each gear. Hit the button labeled 1, and you go into first. Hit 2, and you go into second, and so forth and so on. I don't particularly find this convenient, but you may. I would probably hack it so that I could use a 3G automatic shiftronic shifter, where kicking it over into shiftronic activates the system, up automatically finds the next higher gear, and down the next lower. I don't hafta worry about this anymore, though, as I ditched the A/T for a 5 speed.

i wish some one would make a sequential kind of thing like the 3g autos have, like that "maumatic" that woudl be great... is there an TCU on our cars caus i imagine there is some way of doing that. However most autos shift becasue of fludid control in the tranny... complicated but cool

F1 cars use more of a PADDLE type shift to them as well. One paddle on either side of the steering column. Left hand down, right hand up.

Yeah there's also ones that come with a single paddle on the right side of steering wheel, tap it towards upshifts and tap it away and it down shifts. Just my 2 cents.

I doubt anyone will have experience with it since it's like 2500.

If i had a better job or just rich then I would buy a new BMW M3. The trannys have 3 different selectable positions. You are able to drive in regular automatic, flip stick type deal?????, and F1 inspired paddle shifting. OMG That is the #@%#@%#@%#@%. I watched Motorweek and found that #@%#@%#@%#@% out. The price is around $50,000. Just imagine shifting like that. Damn. And it has 333hp and runs the quarter in the 13s. That is one piece of freakin art if you ask me. I might not ever get one but I can always dream. :thumb:
