I plan to get the Kaaz limited slip differntial for my GST. But I was also thinking of just converting it to AWD in the far future. How would you compare performance wise?
(I know it eliminates the one tire burnout on fwd):dsm:

It helps your car in just about every category. I have an lsd on my Honda and its a wonderful thing over stock. It helps with take-off, traction on turns, excelleration, braking, cornering and yes...it eliminates the one wheel burn outs. I would say almost every ff enthusiast that gets semi serious has or is going to get one.

i just recently put a quaife in my 95 GS-T. it definately makes a world of difference in almost every aspect of traction

i dont' think it could beat a GSX off the line. with good drivers it would be damn close. I have a green on my car and i still spin tires in first and second gear. Having a quaife or any LSD in the front still isn't AWD, but i guess it's as close as you're gonna get. don't get me wrong though, it's a hundred times better than the stock diff.

I guess it's gonna come down too how much HP you have in the end. I really want to get my car down to low 11- 12 sec area. That's why I why I ask about the LSD.

at the top of the game fwd's are still faster than awd's out of the box. but up til you get to that level they'll still own you. especially on the street with no slicks.

Quaife goes for $800-$1000 arguable the best lsd
Kaaz $700-$850 both of these are true lsd's, then you got your insert lsd's like the phantom grip and the bm tranny that go for around $200. I have experience w/ all of these, personally i like the quaife the best. I did not clunk and make scary noises like the kaaz did and just seemed like the car handled better w/ the quaife since it wasnt a 50/50 torque split betweent the 2 front wheels when i turned. The phantom grip w/ the 1000lbs spring just seemed like it worked whenever it felt like
 . But a any lsd is so much better than a stock diff. And no you will not beat an awd dsm off line unless you have slicks. With my set up on my buddies car (my engine had taken the big one) and the slicks i never go to use, he got a 1.5 60' time and beleive me he is not on of the best drivers you've seen, and he would average 1.6-1.8 short times. Slicks are a must if you want to be quick plain and simple!!

Quaiffe is a Torque Biasing diff. not a LSD.
close enough to the same thing. Bro had one in his gti vr6 w/a vortech V-1 blower @ 10psi. made a world of difference, but a stock GSX will always be quicker out of the hole than a GS-T. 4 usable feet will grip better than 2....always, and by alot

But you also have that drive train power loss.

The drivetrain powerloss only becomes an issue later on in the race... or on a rolling start.

I have the Kaaz unit. It is good, but I still have to work on my suspension. With slicks and a good suspension you should be able to get down to an AWD launch. It's just a little more tricky, that's all.

I have a Phantom Grip in mine, and its WONDERFUL..

its not majic, you WILL NOT stay with an AWD off the line unless its driver is autistic... but it is very nice upgrade... worth the money for sure.

no drivability issues/side effects either... you wouldent know its there.. untill you launch...

i would be pretty damn hard to beat an AWD DSM off the line. And another thing, try not to think about makin ur car AWD too hard, it isnt worth it one bit. For the money ur gonna pay in just labor for the fabrication, you could buy a 1G awd for that price.
